Actual performance can vary, including lower powerline network capacity and data throughput rate. Performance depends on many fact ors, conditions and variables, including volume of network traffic, home wiring construction, operating system used, mix of networking products used, interference from other electrical devices, age of home wiring, wireline range and coverage as determined by wiring route or path between devices and other adverse conditions. Power outlets and electrical wiring must all be part of the same electrical system.

Works GREAT, February 22nd, 2014
After a change of modem/router by Comcast, my WiFi was super poor. I was advised by a Comcast installer about Linksys PLWK400. This item is GREAT. I now have a "hard wire" in my basement and great WiFi in the whole house. Only negative comment is I had to look online for directions to install.

home electrical service wiring problems, December 28th, 2013
The product is great, performs as advertised. The installation doc was a little misleading in the area of 'wall outlet' usage and here is what you need to know, the device uses the 'common' side of your home's electrical wiring so you can use any outlet in your home that is wired to the same service panel, the outlet does not have to be on the same circuit breaker. I got this info from 'live chat' on the website. Hope this helps.

Product did not work, October 6th, 2013
I am sorry to say that the product did not work for me. I give 3 stars for the effort that support made to try to get it to work. I returned the product back to the store for a full refund.

Good, but needs improvements, December 18th, 2012
This extender worked very well in improving the signal strength in other areas of my large home. My main problem with it, and the reason it doesn't get 5 stars, is not the wifi strength, but rather the lack of settings and management options. For example, I have a MAC address filter on my router, but when the signal is being picked up from the extender, the MAC address filter does not work on the extender. Aside from a password, there is basically no other method of protection against intrusion. Additionally, the management tool is lacking in options, some options don/t work, and it is not very user friendly. As soon as these issues are fixed, I;'ll be happy to return and give it 5 stars!

Was ready to give up on decent wifi in my house UNTIL I discovered this device. Thanks!!

Works Great, March 11th, 2013
Works as stated. Easy setup. Living in a ranch and having my router on one side of the house created dead spots. This unit fixed that! I am going to pick up a second for a friend.

Electrically Amplified Broadband, January 11th, 2013
This is one of the best ideas in recent years to leverage 100+ year old infrastructure.... The power grid.

IT WORKS!!!!!, January 16th, 2013
I have brick walls dividing my office and the rest of the house. WIFI doesn't work. I installed the PLW400, now I get WIFI though out the house and on my decking as well. Great product. Easy to install. No problems.

Great performance, poor set up instructions, August 13th, 2013
This did exactly what I wanted. I just tested near the remote hot spot and got 42 D/ 32 U Mb/s [my FIOS is rated for 50/ 25]. They could have added one more page to the set up and it would have been simple. At the end of the installation, you are asked to sign onto the wi-fi server. It asks for a USER ID and Password - tried everything I could find. Called tech support. Leave USER ID blank Password: admin after that, it was easy!

Worked as advertised, December 4th, 2012
Quick and easy to install. Worked exactly as advertised.Great for getting internet to smart tv's, bluray players, or receivers.

Great product fro the price., December 4th, 2012
Great product but still is not covering some blind spots that are within the guaranteed range.

Great product!, December 4th, 2012
I had a need to extend the WiFi in my house out to my garage. When I built the house I never thought to have ethernet run to the garage, so this was the perfect solution for me. It works flawlessly and to be honest even if building again, with this solution I'm not sure I'd go through the hassle of wiring with ethernet anyway.

Great way to extend Wi-Fi for IP Cameras, December 4th, 2012
Have a Linksys WVC80N color ip camera on my side yard to monitor gate. Wireless signal from router could not make it to this area of house. This PLWK400 power line kit did the trick. Installed it in outlet inside of house near camera. Works great. Plus, I also got better wireless coverage from this device for upstairs bedroom that only had ok coverage before installing this device. Recommend for those looking to extend wireless to all areas of home.

Excellent product and easy to use, December 5th, 2012
I had a wireless router in one side of my house but the signal was very weak at the other side and wireless connection dropped frequently there. Then I bought this product and now I have reliable wireless connection all the time.

Excellent Product, December 5th, 2012
Have been using this product for 6 weeks and have had no problems. Worked exactly as advertised and was easy to setup. Used to connect receiver needing an ethernet connection and for the wi-fi on my new Plasma TV.

Solved my wireless problems!, December 8th, 2012
Even though we have an E4200 router upstairs, the signal is weak across the house, downstairs in the family room. This also gave us a way to enjoy wireless access in the basement now. Just an FYI: Follow the installation steps to the letter. I guess I wasn't paying attention, but when I did, the install went flawlessly. Plus, you have the added convenience, of having the Cisco Powerline Utility which allows remote access to both units. I recommend this to anyone who wants to expand the range of their wireless router.

Simple and functional product, December 21st, 2012
Setup: this product was very easy to self install; Function: I've seen excellant performance from this product in the lines of standard Internet surfing and VPN connectivity; Connectivity: no problems with multi- device connections.

Works great but not easy setup, July 13th, 2013
Just purchased from Linksys online store. The setup disc did not support Windows 8. Took me several hours and multiple attempts to get setup with proper security. Works as advertised once you can get it connected. I would not allow an "open" network and found it difficult to configure but eventually worked it out.

I'm impressed!, March 15th, 2013
I have a large house and I have a fairly complex media server with multiple access points, the most "internet hungry" of which is a home theatre that serves as the data center for the entire house. In the past I had a system that involved several wi-fi repeaters all over the house. The problems started to happen once the entire media library got upgraded to 1080p video. There was a lot of choking and interrupted playback. The first option I looked into was hardwire the entire house and create physical access points where needed. The main problem with that idea was its $20,000 price tag. When I saw the PLWK400 system I figured a few hundred bucks was not a lot if it would save $20k I installed the system with 5 access points. The installation took approximately 3 minutes per device. I'm used to having to set-up and sometimes troubleshoot connections, so the easy setup felt kind of ominous... almost as if it was "too easy"... the question if the system would really work arose. Here are the results: Test 1: Benchmark control test at hardwired ISP connection point. The internet is coming from my ISP at an average of 102Mbps Test 2: Wi-Fi Benchmark control test in same room as internet connection origination point. The internet with wifi benchmarks at 80-85Mbps Test 3: 1080p Video Streaming to single source via Wi-Fi With streaming HD video and full 7.1 DTS the speed still remained at around 80Mbps. Test 4: Multiple HD streaming via PLWK40 wired. When streaming Full HD video and full 7.1 DTS to 5 destination points simultaneously the PLWK400 barely flinched. There was ZERO lag on the video and internet connection speeds remained above 55Mbps. Test 5: Full capacity This test was fairly complex to set up, but I was so impressed with the quality of the PLWK400 system that I felt it was worth it. Connections: - 5 different 1080p films streaming through wired ports. - 6 Apple TVs streaming 1080p films through AirVideo (WiFi) - 4 iPads streaming Netflix content (WiFi) - 3 Laptops Streaming HD Netflix Content (WiFi) - 1 Desktop Streaming HD Netflix Content (WiFi) - 1 Laptop running benchmark tests The results: For those of you who are geeks like me, you can do the math, that is over 180Mbps of content being streamed simultaneously. On the wired connections NONE of the films chocked, got stuck, dropped frames, or suffered any kind of quality loss. The wireless movies would every now and then experience a slight loss in quality, but on average they would happen every 10 to 15 minutes and only last for a few seconds. The benchmark test on the connection speed dropped all the way down to the low 10Mbps. Even with the absurd (and very unlikely) connection load of streaming 19 HD movies SIMULTANEOUSLY plus an internet connection this system barely flinched. I have ordered 1 access point for every room in the house. For those of you in critical need to expand the speed and reliability of your wired and wireless connections at a fraction of the cost of having to wire a large area, look no further. I saved tens of thousands of dollars and several days, perhaps even weeks of the work of having the house hardwired. This is the single best solution I have ever found!

That was really easy!!, March 15th, 2013
Installed in a large home, with a single power supply. It does not matter if you have multiple pannels with many breakers on it. This system was installed in two outlets that do not connect to the same brakers or the same pannel. The breaker that matters is the one at the point of entry of the power line into the house. Instructions should be a bit more clear on that issue. It takes less than a minute for the units to communicate and setup is straightforward. In future updates of this product, the unit password should be located in the front of the unit. The signal strenght is exellent and speed is good enough to carry TV transmission on a tablet or netflix in high resolution.

High speed wired and wi-fi everywhere in home, March 15th, 2013
Purchased this powerline kit to solve two issues at my home. 1. Get my LG electronics blu-ray player with internet apps connected to home network and internet for video and music streaming. 2. Extend Wi-Fi signal to my backyard. Easy setup and works great.

Dependant on house wiring, January 19th, 2013
Be careful of expecting too much from this product. Although the product itself may be well intended, if the wiring in your home has ANY issue, they will not work. I bought two sets o these and lost a great deal of money when I found out that the wiring in my home would not carry the data. My house is less than 4 years old as well. What DID work is a wireless signal booster on each floor, with the main router in the basement.

Only supports 2.4 GHz and problem with Win8, April 8th, 2013
I spent a lot of time with their tech support because at least when I purchased it, the software did not work with Windows 8. Also, it would be very nice if it supported 5 GHz. It has helped cover most of our condo with Wi-Fi.
