I am so glad I read the reviews (I usually don't). I followed the two button set up as JSteveB told us and bam! 20 seconds latter the whole building is wifi'ed!

Very good and functional range extender, April 8th, 2013
My house has two floors, on the middle of the first floor resides my main WiFi router that is connected to the modem. the router is a D-LINK DIR-827. On the second floor the signal is very week (1 bar) at some spots. So I decided to purchase this RE1000 based on several positive reviews. I'm giving this 4 stars rating since at the beginning it seems to not being working as expected, the uptime uplink lasted at most 60 seconds and the RE reconnects. I did some research at D-LINK forums and Linksys forums and tried several "solutions" but none of them worked for me. I was almost goint to return my RE1000 but as a last result I did the following: factory reset and latest firmware reload to both, my DIR 827 and my RE1000. After that I manually reconfigured my DIR 827 and not messed with the advanced configuration, I just defined my WiFis (2.4 and 6 Ghz) WAN and LAN configuration. and after having a working WiFi and internet i JUST used the Linksys RE1000, and after successfully configuring the RE1000 I placed it above my DIR 827 on the second floor. Now mi WiFi is working and the RE1000 uptime lasts for hours (12 or more hours) there are some reconnection but that's ok since the signal received by the RE1000 sometimes drops to 2 bars. So for all of you that have persistent reconecction issues I recommend trying my procedure. My only issue is that my second floor Smart TV for some reason only pickups the signal from the DIR-827, and not the extended one from the RE1000. But that´s a minor issue that I'll troubleshoot

JSteveB is Right, March 20th, 2013
Thanks JSteveB from Boulder. I too came home from Best Buy with my Linksys N300 extender, inserted the installation CD into my desktop pc (cabled to my Comcast Router) and was promptly told I couldn't get to 'installed' from here!!. Instead of returning to BB I followed JSteveB's instructions and TA DA. It works, So simple.

wasn't sure it made a difference, March 15th, 2013
really did not solve the problem - I eventually did solve it by adding high speed AT&T internet and ES4200

Works great, once you've contacted tech support, March 15th, 2013
This extender provides reach to all areas of the home. Just plug it into an available outlet close to your wireless devices. Setup disk did not work and needed tech support to help out...but don't agree to pay the $9.99 fee for screen sharing.

  Billbo from California
Good Product, March 15th, 2013
Works well and is good value. Only complaint is that you can not set it up with a computer that is hard wired to the Linksys router. It requires that you use a computer that is connected wirelessly. This should be unnecessary and could be a showstopper if you only want to use it as an extender for an existing computer which is connected directly to the router with a cable. Very surprising!

  doubleleo from asheville,nc
good product, March 15th, 2013
I first bought a netgear range extender, could not ever get it to work, fustrated I purchased this range extender, easy set up about 5 minutes and has worked well ever since

Works perfectly with my IBM thinkpad R32. I no longer need a Wifi dongle. I also no longer need to restrict my laptop usage to 1 area of the house!

Installation advice, March 15th, 2013
I never write reviews, but felt the urge to give advice on the installation. It is super simple if you ignore the packaged CD. Don't even use CD. Just use the secure wifi connect buttons. 1) plug range extender in wall socket and press the wifi connect button 2) walk over to your Cisco wireless router and press and hold the similar wifi connect button for 2 seconds. You're done. In about 20 seconds the RE has joined your network. Now just unplug the RE and walk to where you need signal boost and plug it in there. It takes about 20 seconds to sync up and it works. Now to slam Cisco on their installation CD wizard. Their wizard REQUIRES that you install it from a wireless computer. Cannot be your main wired computer that is connected to your wireless router. why is that? It assumes everyone has a laptop just lying around their house which is ludicrous. I don't get it. The mass market has a wireless router, a wired main PC, and some wireless mobile device: iPhone, iPad, wireless DVR, etc. I think the wifi connected buttons should be their first suggestion. Second would be to allow a wired computer to do the work..

Finally an extender for my Wireless-N network, March 15th, 2013
Had area of new 2,400 sq ft home that had issue getting wireless coverage from my E4200 router. The extender did the job. After setting it up, just plugged it into the wall about 50 ft away from the area that had bad coverage and now I have wireless-N speeds everywhere. Great for my ipad or iphone when watching slingbox from dish network dvr. This product works.

Eliminates Dead Spots, March 15th, 2013
The RE1000 is very effective at eliminating dead spots and extending the wireless range of your wifi. I use it with the E4200 router and have two RE1000 in my house. You ca also use the lamp port on it to connect a wired device anywhere where an outlet is available, very cool!

  Skipatr107 from Centrial Wisconsin
Works even in my basement, March 15th, 2013

RE1000, March 15th, 2013
The unit works perfectly for extending the range of my E4200 router. My shop is around 75 ft from the router and was recieving only two bars at best on the signal. It now connects at 144 mbps so the RE1000 did the trick! Get you one!!!!

Best complementarty product with an easy setup, March 15th, 2013
Excellent presentation, with an easy setup to attach your router in any wireless standars (B,G,N) Performance is incedible, duplicate the range of my actual E4200 router.

What a relief!, March 15th, 2013
I used to use... well that's a bit of an overstatement... the Hawking HWREN1 for extending the range of my wireless router. After a combine downtime of forever and countless hours spent on the phone with Hawking customer support, I took a sledge hammer to my HWREN1 and bought a Linksys RE1000 which I should have done long before. I set it up in under 5 minutes and never looked back. It works just flawlessly with my Linksys E4200.

  Richie from Phoenix
Excellant router., March 15th, 2013
The new router is easy to set up, monitor and works great with the extender module. Unit looks great on the book shelf and has a small foot print.

  carrionsoul from New Mexico
It certainly works., March 15th, 2013
I got one of these to expand the reach of my network all the way to our guest room in the house. Once set up, our guests have never been without access in their rooms.

  Dan12189 from Watervliet, NY, USA
Easy and Fast, March 15th, 2013
Purchased the Range Extender 1000 to provide a better wireless signal for some work out equipment in a corner of the basement. Signal strength went from 42% to 100%. Solved all connectivity problems. This thing is easy to install, only took about ten minutes. The price is a bit too high though.

  jsokohl from Albuquerque, NM, USA
A Wireless Network Necessity, March 15th, 2013
Installed and connected with ease to a WRT310N v2 using Wi-Fi Protected setup. I didn't even need to use the ethernet port on the RE1000 when I set it up from a wired PC connected to my router. I was surprised with how quick and easy it was to get it running on my network. Complete setup, and config took maybe 5 min at the most. The option to plug it in directly to the wall, or sit it on a desk is a definite plus. While using the RE1000 as a bridge for wired devices, it still functions as a wireless repeater/access point with your wireless devices. This gives you much flexibility when expanding a network. If you have multiple wired devices in an isolated location from your router, and you don't want to run a long cable (or running a long cable is impractical) to connect them, then you could use the RE1000 in conjunction with a 10/100 ethernet switch.

  scottzee from Ohio
Flawless..., March 15th, 2013
I can not believe how this thing worked for me today. Setup took literally less than 5 minutes. My router is on the north side of the house and the signal sometimes would cut in/out on the south side. Not a very big house though. Set this thing up in minutes, and turned off "cellular data" on my iPhone. I . can now walk out the door, across the street to the neighbors, and lose no strength from the wireless signal. Out of all the tech stuff/gadgets I have bought, this is BY FAR the most satisfied I have been...

  pdfero from PA
Works well but is overpriced, March 15th, 2013
I like the simplicity of it, and it works well. Plug limits where the device can be plugged in without a pigtail.

RE1000, March 15th, 2013
We are a Mac family and are using a AT&T Motorola DSL modem/wireless-router . Needed too boost the signal to the other side of our house and so far it seems too be doing just that ! Didn't have too do the 192. stuff! Very easy to install about ( about 10-15minutes). I am cheap so I got the refurbished one for $59.95! ( looks brand new ! ) Very pleased with it !

  daveleblanc from Austin, TX, USA

RE 1000, March 15th, 2013
I have a 5000sq ft house I needed to extend my wireless coverage area with my E2000 router. I installed the RE 1000 according to cisco's instructions and I now have excellent range throughout my entire house. My problems are solved for minimal cost. Great product. The negative feed backs I have been reading about the RE 1000 will only happen if you do not follow the instructions on setup. Thank you Cisco

  Ruben from Mobile, AL, USA
Works great!!!, March 15th, 2013
Very simple to set up and works great. Noticed 30dBm signal strength increase with 8Mbps increase on speed test.

  BruceBee from Wisconsin, USA
Awesome, works exactly as advertised, March 15th, 2013
6,000 sq ft home with E3200 in basement on one end of home. The RE1000 solved poor coverage at other end and outside. Now have all 5 bars. Strong and fast. Very nice. Super easy to install. It couldn't have been easier.

SIMPLE SOLUTION, March 15th, 2013
This product is easy to set up and does really well with the motorola surfboard sbg6580. I used two of them to build a robust wireless network through a 6k sqft house. Used a laptop and setup disk five minutes later all done. Customer service as linksys is great when you can get a clear connection.

1400% boost in wi-fi speed in my split-level home, March 15th, 2013
My wife wanted wi-fi capability in the upstairs portion of our home so I bought a re-furbed RE1000. Installed the software and entered the passphrase for my Linksys router. Once the configuration was completed I had boosted my speed from 5.5Mbps to a much faster 78.0Mbps. This exceeded my expectations.

  jimmywoo from Panama
salvation, March 15th, 2013
After a couple of years breaking my head and doing all kinds of configurations, installing multiple routers, ecte ect, I finally managed to have a real wi fi system at home without all the cables and hole drilling and meeses created by extending using wired routers with different ip's. This is the best invention since the wheel!! Excelent product, great support (although not needed as it practically installs itself..

E2500 Router and RE1000 Extender, March 15th, 2013
I highly recommend each of these products, althought a "little more pricey" in comparison to other OEM's. I recently installed "WiFi" access in my entire home (6,458 sq. ft.) to a create a Wireless environment which is a mix of hard wired and Wireless devices. I can't express enough the ease of set-up and installation. Total time from opening the boxes to set-up of both the E2500 Router and the RE1000 Extender was less than 20 minutes. Suggestion to anyone installing the Extender in a "hard wired" environment (Desktop Ethernet cable running to an Ethernet port on the Router)... you may need to disable the WAN services first. I highly recommend (if available) using a Wireless Device (Laptop, etc.) to set-up the extender. While setting up the Extender make sure you do not place the Extender outside of the Router range (still having 5 Bars) before moving it to other areas of your home. I tested it in various locations (electrical outlets) of my home to maximize access. It's now stationary in the "center" of the first floor of my home, the router is on the second floor. This was the first time I've installed a "Wireless hub" and couldn't be happier with the performance and ease of installation.

How about 802.11n 5.0Ghz?, February 16th, 2013
I would love to buy this but it has to be on the 802.11n 5Ghz. On my EA4500 I have 802.11b/g only on 2.4Ghz I can not add .11n to 2.4Ghz without lots of changes to my network. This is a WEP key issue.

  Afocoryw20 from United States
Decent, March 1st, 2013
This product is good to extend the wireless signal coverage about a room or two max. I made several speed tests with and without it plugged into a 3rd floor outlet. Router/Modem is in the basement. I was getting higher download/upload results with this device plugged in opposed to not. I will not return this product.

A reviewer from La Crescenta, CA
Not fun to setup, February 3rd, 2013
The MAC address printed on label is NOT the MAC address of the device. I had to log into it through wired connection to find what the real MAC was. This was important since I have MAC filtering turned on. Now it is associated with my Cisco wireless router. This killed about 45 minutes of my time.

A reviewer from San Diego, CA.
the Linksys RE 1000 range extender saved the day, December 4th, 2012
We have our wireless router set up in the detached guest house, but wireless in the main house was weak in many areas. I spoke with a Cisco representative who promised the range extender would do the job. The house is about 50' from the wireless router, the interior rooms of the house did not have a signal. All that changed after simple installation of the extender, we now have a strong wireless signal throughout the house. I highly recommend this product

Boosts the wireless N signal, 2400 MHz., December 4th, 2012
The RE1000 boosts the wireless N signal to extend the otherwise inadequate signal range within my 1 story ranch. The total distance from my access point to the laptop is about 30 feet, with the RE1000 about half way, yealding a 90% signal, over a 50% without it. Sheet rock partitions and a brick fireplace block line of sight.

A reviewer from Los Altos, CA
Excellent wi-fi extension, December 4th, 2012
Excellent product to extend wi-fi network in a long house. Advantage over a regular wireless extender is that the bandwidth does not drop. Fairly easy setup after you read the advice about not plugging the adapters into an extension cord. Directly into the wall worked fine.

Range Extenders Didn't Work, December 4th, 2012
I bought two Linksys Range Extenders and neither of them did anything to improve my internet service. If I put them to far from the base unit, they continualy shut down and I need to unplug and replug them in. Than they stop working completely and I need to call Linksys support. They charged me $60 for a 6 month service contract. They get the unit working but within days it stops working again. I tried moving the units closer to the base unit and they stay connected longer but now my signal in the remote areas is only 1-2 bars and internet service is slow / unacceptable. I have a smart thermostat in my home that is located 50' and several walls from my wireless router. The RE1000 was placed about 8' from the thermostat which boosted the signal from weak to strong. My router is non-Cisco and I needed to sync the devices by going to their setup sites using their IP addresses and an ethernet cable plus update the RE1000 with the latest firmware. Cisco customer service was a big help in doing this. I had to do a manual setup as I could not get the setup CD to work. Once I finally got it set up the RE1000 has been a solid performer. It would have been helpful if the documentation had addressed the case of a non-Cisco router.

Double The Pleasure, December 5th, 2012
Not only was I able to improve the signal for my wireless-enabled devices but was able to simply run an ethernet cable from the RE1000 to a non-wireless-enabled computer to connect to the network.

I have two RE 1000's they work great, December 5th, 2012
Cisco Linksys RE1000 is a great wi-fi extender. I am using two on the same network to provide IP addresses to my TV's and blue players.

Great Product, December 5th, 2012
This product does exactly what it says it supposed to do. I have a linksys router and placed this in the farthest corner of my house opposite the router and I have a really strong signal through my entire house now. Easy to install in less than 5 minutes.

Good Range, easy install, December 5th, 2012
Easy to set up, good range and good speed make this an ideal wi-fi extender. The range of the extenter is greater than the wireless access point. Easy to connect almost all over the house. Good speed when running Amazon Prime movies etc.

Signal strength went from very poor to 100%!, December 7th, 2012
I use this extender in conjunction with a Cisco router. Due to the location of the router in my basement, the signal that I was receiving upstairs wasn't the greatest. I was able to place the extender on the main floor of our home and locate it almost directly above the router. My signal strength went from 30% to 100%! I could not believe the difference. Also, I am now able to have decent signal strength around the perimeters of my home. I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone having problems with decent signal strength.

When it worked it was fine but about 4 times per week I kept having to reset my wifi. I sent it back.

excellent product!, December 8th, 2012
This is an excelllent product, it allows you to use the Wi-Fi throuout the house with a very strong signal. The help I got from Cisco technical staff was timely in figuring out how to set it up and put it to work correctly.

The RE 1000 Range Extender, December 10th, 2012
The range on the RE 1000 Wireless Range Extender is good, not great. My RE 1000 is aprox. 25 feet from Linksys router, and where I need more coverage is 25 feet further away from the RE 1000, my signal is about 2 bars out of a possible 4. The other thing to make note of, is if you reset your modem and router, you will need to also reset the RE 1000, or you will not get a signal from it. Like I said it works good , not great.
