Review for RE 1000, July 20th, 2014
Well I got this product of Amazon and I had it within a day. Open the box plugged it in and it took me almost 2 hours to get this product to work but once I got it working I've had no problems with it.

Did not work consistently, March 25th, 2014
I do not recommend this product. Installed correctly, connected but would disconnect a few times each week. Reboot would reconnect but not for long. Called support and did all that they recommended. Finally bought an Asus range extender which has worked perfectly ever since. If i could rate with zero stars i would do so.

Not all it's cracked up to be., March 24th, 2014
Sadly, I purchased this without first reading any reviews. Initial setup went without too much trouble after finally using the reset button to clear everything. This is primarily for the use of my Ooma voip, so it needs to be dependable, but two mornings later it drops the connection for no reason. Rebooted it and it reconnected, but the next a.m. it again drops the connection, and after rebooting, drops it again that afternoon. This time it's been staying connected for almost 36 hours, We'll see, but one more time and back it goes. Another minor issue was a missing a.c. power cord, which the fools at Linksis won't replace unless I return the entire unit. They obviously want to make the process as difficult as possible to discourage people from seeking any warranty service. I shall not be purchasing any Linksys/Cisco products in the future.

Product uncompatible with other Cisco/Linksys, February 16th, 2014
Although it was recommended by my ISP, Cox Communication, as a device to expand the inadequate range of my Cisco DPC3825, it was not even a compatible product. Your selling representative for the RE1000, who totally stood behind their sale, was not even aware of this fact. NO MORE CISCO/LINKSYS and I now feel sorry for Belkin..whom I have dealt with for many years.

A reviewer from New Albany, PA
Useless after 2 years, February 28th, 2014
For the first 2 years the RE1000 worked great. Set it up and plugged it in and forgot about it for 2 years. About 4 months ago my Wi-Fi in the kitchen stopped working. Eventually realized it was a limited connection from the RE1000, restarted it and a couple hours later I got the same problem. For a few days I just tried restarting it but it would always lose the connection to the router after a couple hours. Resetup the RE1000 and router (e4200v1) and updated firmware on both and the problem continued. Moved the RE1000 closer to the router but the problem persisted. Did a little research and it seems I am not the only one with this problem. When the RE1000 worked it was great. If you end up have problems with it be prepared to rip your hair out because it is not well supported by Linksys when it comes time to troubleshoot.

Hard to setup, March 12th, 2014
Bought to boost signal at condo. Setup was extremely difficult. With tech support, still not able to setup. Returned to Best Buy for a cheaper Netgear product that worked VERY well and EXTREMELY easy to setup.

Works like a charm., February 22nd, 2014
I loaded the installation CD, followed the step by step instructions (very few steps), plugged in the extender, and it connected perfectly the first time. Couldn't have been easier. Well worth the price.

Product met all expectations., January 29th, 2014
Following instructions provided resulted in straightforward installation. Placing unit midway between router and target area gave excellent performance as measured on computer located in target area. Signal strength went from "Lo" to "Excellent"

seamless transition, January 24th, 2014
I purchased this device after I was disappointed with the Netgear range extender. Every time I was out of range, I had to manually switch to the extender (it was my network name with _EXT at the end). With the Linksys RE1000 I received better signal boost and the transition was undetectable. It was as if I never lost connection. I even misplaced the install CD and was able to download the software for my MacBookPro. I have used this on three different home networks and simply had to press the reset button and re-install/re-configure the device every time I changed my wireless router. It should also be noted that I have used Netgear (3700 and R7000 Nighthawk)for my home systems and have had no issues other than a home that probably has the worst layout for a wireless network. I have no issues and cant wait until they come out with a unit that can support the ac speeds.

Wonderfull, January 19th, 2014
i Hsd very dificulties to connect my other devices to the Bet but RE100 solves all problems.

Excellent Product, January 17th, 2014
I had several "dead spots" in my house where we couldn't receive our WiFi signal. Connecting to a network is tricky, I'm not a techie & and I always found Linksys Tech Support to be excellent. This time was no different. I had a problem connecting to the network. One call to Linksys & 10 minutes later the Extender had eliminated all of the dead spots! The only thing better than Linksys products is their tech support. I haven't dealt with another tech company - other than Apple - that comes close.

  A reviewer from Hancock, MN
Good enough ..., January 13th, 2014
I feel that the range is not quite as long as I hoped, but it is extending the range enough to where I get good to excellent signal throughout a smaller house. A good range extender for the price and very easy to set up!

  A reviewer from Cincinnati, Ohio
Difficult to program, January 10th, 2014
The product works, but I had to spend an hour on the phone with an advisor to be able to program it to my router. I was not able to program it on my Macintosh computer and Time-Warner router by using the disk software. It was never recognized. I had to access the router admin database.

Easy set-up, January 4th, 2014
My smartphones were not getting strong signal from the downstairs Linksys E1200 1-2 bars. I simply reset the RE100 for 8 seconds ran the CD from my laptop I didn't even have to enter my router name or password within 2-3 min it was set up and prompted me to move to desired location. My smartphones now have 4-5 bars from 50ft upstairs. Very Happy

Works great, but, maybe not for you., September 30th, 2013
I live in an apartment complex that provides wi-fi., pass-word protected. Prior to adding the Linksys, my reception was always low to non-existent. After installation, my signal was consistently excellent. However, as the apartments around me also had the password, I would get an excellent signal, but was rarely able to even log-on, as there were too many people using my extended signal. (catch 22?) As there seems to be no way to set-up an independent password for the Linksys, I can only recommend this for someone who has their own router and password. This seems to be the case with NetGear extenders also. Needless to say I'm back to a cable company.

Reasonable price/value for the money. Seems to work., August 15th, 2013
We purchased this product to boost our wireless signal so internet connectivity would be better/more reliable for our blu-ray player. The wireless router was located upstairs while the blu-ray was downstairs near the HDTV. Although I did have some difficulty getting the unit initially set up (it never would connect with the setup cd provided), the website provided a nice FAQ trouble-shooting guide which helped me manually install the extender. I especially like the compact design of this simple plug-in unit.

How about 802.11n 5.0Ghz?, February 16th, 2013
I would love to buy this but it has to be on the 802.11n 5Ghz. On my EA4500 I have 802.11b/g only on 2.4Ghz I can not add .11n to 2.4Ghz without lots of changes to my network. This is a WEP key issue.

Decent, March 1st, 2013
This product is good to extend the wireless signal coverage about a room or two max. I made several speed tests with and without it plugged into a 3rd floor outlet. Router/Modem is in the basement. I was getting higher download/upload results with this device plugged in opposed to not. I will not return this product.

Works GREAT...Luv it...Needed more range from the house,, August 12th, 2013
Thanks JSteveB. Aug 12, 2013 I am glad that I read the reviews (I usually don't read them). I followed the two button set up as JSteveB instructed and wow! About 1 minute later I have WiFi where I needed it (about fifty ft from the house is Wifi)! For the ones that's tryin to figure out what button (plug the expander I waited for solid light, press reset on the expander and then reset for about 2 seconds on the router. Once the connection made, unplug expander move it to permanent location and LOOKOUT Wifi). It is serving my purpose.

A reviewer from La Crescenta, CA
Not fun to setup, February 3rd, 2013
The MAC address printed on label is NOT the MAC address of the device. I had to log into it through wired connection to find what the real MAC was. This was important since I have MAC filtering turned on. Now it is associated with my Cisco wireless router. This killed about 45 minutes of my time.

A reviewer from Copperas Cove, TX
Easiest Set-up Ever, May 29th, 2013
Got a new wireless router which in-turn the reset button on the RE1000 had to be pushed. After the download of new Linksys software, it was so easy to follow the on-line instructions and by pushing the WPS button on my router, it was not necessary to do any manual input - easiet set-up ever and the RE1000 really boosts the wireless signal 100% as opposed to having almost no wireless signal with only one bar before using the extender. Thanks Linksys for a great product!

A reviewer from South Central Ohio
So easy!, June 2nd, 2013
The RE1000 was so easy to connect to my Linksys router. This was my second RE1000 so I knew it would be. I have a long ranch home. I have placed the router in the middle and an extender at each end. The router is fine for my laptop but I have a tablet who's radio is poor. Now I have great coverage for all devices. (Laptop, tablet, & smart phone)

the Linksys RE 1000 range extender saved the day, December 4th, 2012
We have our wireless router set up in the detached guest house, but wireless in the main house was weak in many areas. I spoke with a Cisco representative who promised the range extender would do the job. The house is about 50' from the wireless router, the interior rooms of the house did not have a signal. All that changed after simple installation of the extender, we now have a strong wireless signal throughout the house. I highly recommend this product

Boosts the wireless N signal, 2400 MHz., December 4th, 2012
The RE1000 boosts the wireless N signal to extend the otherwise inadequate signal range within my 1 story ranch. The total distance from my access point to the laptop is about 30 feet, with the RE1000 about half way, yealding a 90% signal, over a 50% without it. Sheet rock partitions and a brick fireplace block line of sight.

Excellent wi-fi extension, December 4th, 2012
Excellent product to extend wi-fi network in a long house. Advantage over a regular wireless extender is that the bandwidth does not drop. Fairly easy setup after you read the advice about not plugging the adapters into an extension cord. Directly into the wall worked fine.

Range Extenders Didn't Work, December 4th, 2012
I bought two Linksys Range Extenders and neither of them did anything to improve my internet service. If I put them to far from the base unit, they continualy shut down and I need to unplug and replug them in. Than they stop working completely and I need to call Linksys support. They charged me $60 for a 6 month service contract. They get the unit working but within days it stops working again. I tried moving the units closer to the base unit and they stay connected longer but now my signal in the remote areas is only 1-2 bars and internet service is slow / unacceptable. WiFi signal enhanced from 0/1 bar to 4/5 bars! , December 4th, 2012
I have a smart thermostat in my home that is located 50' and several walls from my wireless router. The RE1000 was placed about 8' from the thermostat which boosted the signal from weak to strong. My router is non-Cisco and I needed to sync the devices by going to their setup sites using their IP addresses and an ethernet cable plus update the RE1000 with the latest firmware. Cisco customer service was a big help in doing this. I had to do a manual setup as I could not get the setup CD to work. Once I finally got it set up the RE1000 has been a solid performer. It would have been helpful if the documentation had addressed the case of a non-Cisco router.

Excellent Wireless Addition, December 5th, 2012
If you would like to boost the wireless network coverage in your home, then the Linksys RE1000 Range Extender is a neat choice. It can also be used as a bridge with the help of built-in fast Ethernet port, which helps to connect wired devices to your network. Broaden your wireless coverage even in hard-to-reach-areas with the multiple input, multiple output antennas. This wireless-N range extender also adds flexibility to your placement options to provide outstanding range and performance. With its exceptional quality of service, you can enjoy smooth videos, surfing the web, gaming, and music streaming powerfully. This Linksys range extender is usually compatible with all Wi-Fi devices, so that you can connect computers and other devices with ease.

Signal strength went from very poor to 100%!, December 7th, 2012
I use this extender in conjunction with a Cisco router. Due to the location of the router in my basement, the signal that I was receiving upstairs wasn't the greatest. I was able to place the extender on the main floor of our home and locate it almost directly above the router. My signal strength went from 30% to 100%! I could not believe the difference. Also, I am now able to have decent signal strength around the perimeters of my home. I would definitely recommend this unit to anyone having problems with decent signal strength.

The RE 1000 Range Extender, December 10th, 2012
The range on the RE 1000 Wireless Range Extender is good, not great. My RE 1000 is aprox. 25 feet from Linksys router, and where I need more coverage is 25 feet further away from the RE 1000, my signal is about 2 bars out of a possible 4. The other thing to make note of, is if you reset your modem and router, you will need to also reset the RE 1000, or you will not get a signal from it. Like I said it works good , not great.

E2500 Router and RE1000 Extender, March 15th, 2013
I highly recommend each of these products, althought a "little more pricey" in comparison to other OEM's. I recently installed "WiFi" access in my entire home (6,458 sq. ft.) to a create a Wireless environment which is a mix of hard wired and Wireless devices. I can't express enough the ease of set-up and installation. Total time from opening the boxes to set-up of both the E2500 Router and the RE1000 Extender was less than 20 minutes. Suggestion to anyone installing the Extender in a "hard wired" environment (Desktop Ethernet cable running to an Ethernet port on the Router)... you may need to disable the WAN services first. I highly recommend (if available) using a Wireless Device (Laptop, etc.) to set-up the extender. While setting up the Extender make sure you do not place the Extender outside of the Router range (still having 5 Bars) before moving it to other areas of your home. I tested it in various locations (electrical outlets) of my home to maximize access. It's now stationary in the "center" of the first floor of my home, the router is on the second floor. This was the first time I've installed a "Wireless hub" and couldn't be happier with the performance and ease of installation.

The negative feed backs I have been reading about the RE 1000 will only happen if you do not follow the instructions on setup. Thank you Cisco

RE1000, March 15th, 2013
We are a Mac family and are using a AT&T Motorola DSL modem/wireless-router . Needed too boost the signal to the other side of our house and so far it seems too be doing just that ! Didn't have too do the 192. stuff! Very easy to install about ( about 10-15minutes). I am cheap so I got the refurbished one for $59.95! ( looks brand new ! ) Very pleased with it !

Works well but is overpriced, March 15th, 2013
I like the simplicity of it, and it works well. Plug limits where the device can be plugged in without a pigtail.

Flawless..., March 15th, 2013
I can not believe how this thing worked for me today. Setup took literally less than 5 minutes. My router is on the north side of the house and the signal sometimes would cut in/out on the south side. Not a very big house though. Set this thing up in minutes, and turned off "cellular data" on my iPhone. I . can now walk out the door, across the street to the neighbors, and lose no strength from the wireless signal. Out of all the tech stuff/gadgets I have bought, this is BY FAR the most satisfied I have been...

A Wireless Network Necessity, March 15th, 2013
Installed and connected with ease to a WRT310N v2 using Wi-Fi Protected setup. I didn't even need to use the ethernet port on the RE1000 when I set it up from a wired PC connected to my router. I was surprised with how quick and easy it was to get it running on my network. Complete setup, and config took maybe 5 min at the most. The option to plug it in directly to the wall, or sit it on a desk is a definite plus. While using the RE1000 as a bridge for wired devices, it still functions as a wireless repeater/access point with your wireless devices. This gives you much flexibility when expanding a network. If you have multiple wired devices in an isolated location from your router, and you don't want to run a long cable (or running a long cable is impractical) to connect them, then you could use the RE1000 in conjunction with a 10/100 ethernet switch.

Easy and Fast, March 15th, 2013
Purchased the Range Extender 1000 to provide a better wireless signal for some work out equipment in a corner of the basement. Signal strength went from 42% to 100%. Solved all connectivity problems. This thing is easy to install, only took about ten minutes. The price is a bit too high though.

It certainly works., March 15th, 2013
I got one of these to expand the reach of my network all the way to our guest room in the house. Once set up, our guests have never been without access in their rooms.

Excellant router., March 15th, 2013
The new router is easy to set up, monitor and works great with the extender module. Unit looks great on the book shelf and has a small foot print.

What a relief!, March 15th, 2013
I used to use... well that's a bit of an overstatement... the Hawking HWREN1 for extending the range of my wireless router. After a combine downtime of forever and countless hours spent on the phone with Hawking customer support, I took a sledge hammer to my HWREN1 and bought a Linksys RE1000 which I should have done long before. I set it up in under 5 minutes and never looked back. It works just flawlessly with my Linksys E4200.

RE1000, March 15th, 2013
The unit works perfectly for extending the range of my E4200 router. My shop is around 75 ft from the router and was recieving only two bars at best on the signal. It now connects at 144 mbps so the RE1000 did the trick! Get you one!!!!

Eliminates Dead Spots, March 15th, 2013
The RE1000 is very effective at eliminating dead spots and extending the wireless range of your wifi. I use it with the E4200 router and have two RE1000 in my house. You ca also use the lamp port on it to connect a wired device anywhere where an outlet is available, very cool!

Finally an extender for my Wireless-N network, March 15th, 2013
Had area of new 2,400 sq ft home that had issue getting wireless coverage from my E4200 router. The extender did the job. After setting it up, just plugged it into the wall about 50 ft away from the area that had bad coverage and now I have wireless-N speeds everywhere. Great for my ipad or iphone when watching slingbox from dish network dvr. This product works.

Installation advice, March 15th, 2013
I never write reviews, but felt the urge to give advice on the installation. It is super simple if you ignore the packaged CD. Don't even use CD. Just use the secure wifi connect buttons. 1) plug range extender in wall socket and press the wifi connect button 2) walk over to your Cisco wireless router and press and hold the similar wifi connect button for 2 seconds. You're done. In about 20 seconds the RE has joined your network. Now just unplug the RE and walk to where you need signal boost and plug it in there. It takes about 20 seconds to sync up and it works. Now to slam Cisco on their installation CD wizard. Their wizard REQUIRES that you install it from a wireless computer. Cannot be your main wired computer that is connected to your wireless router. why is that? It assumes everyone has a laptop just lying around their house which is ludicrous. I don't get it. The mass market has a wireless router, a wired main PC, and some wireless mobile device: iPhone, iPad, wireless DVR, etc. I think the wifi connected buttons should be their first suggestion. Second would be to allow a wired computer to do the work..

Good Product, March 15th, 2013
Works well and is good value. Only complaint is that you can not set it up with a computer that is hard wired to the Linksys router. It requires that you use a computer that is connected wirelessly. This should be unnecessary and could be a showstopper if you only want to use it as an extender for an existing computer which is connected directly to the router with a cable. Very surprising!

  inthedark from Ohio, USA
Works great, once you've contacted tech support, March 15th, 2013
This extender provides reach to all areas of the home. Just plug it into an available outlet close to your wireless devices. Setup disk did not work and needed tech support to help out...but don't agree to pay the $9.99 fee for screen sharing.

wasn't sure it made a difference, March 15th, 2013
really did not solve the problem - I eventually did solve it by adding high speed AT&T internet and ES4200

Thanks JSteveB from Boulder. I too came home from Best Buy with my Linksys N300 extender, inserted the installation CD into my desktop pc (cabled to my Comcast Router) and was promptly told I couldn't get to 'installed' from here!!. Instead of returning to BB I followed JSteveB's instructions and TA DA. It works, So simple.

Very good and functional range extender, April 8th, 2013
My house has two floors, on the middle of the first floor resides my main WiFi router that is connected to the modem. the router is a D-LINK DIR-827. On the second floor the signal is very week (1 bar) at some spots. So I decided to purchase this RE1000 based on several positive reviews. I'm giving this 4 stars rating since at the beginning it seems to not being working as expected, the uptime uplink lasted at most 60 seconds and the RE reconnects. I did some research at D-LINK forums and Linksys forums and tried several "solutions" but none of them worked for me. I was almost goint to return my RE1000 but as a last result I did the following: factory reset and latest firmware reload to both, my DIR 827 and my RE1000. After that I manually reconfigured my DIR 827 and not messed with the advanced configuration, I just defined my WiFis (2.4 and 6 Ghz) WAN and LAN configuration. and after having a working WiFi and internet i JUST used the Linksys RE1000, and after successfully configuring the RE1000 I placed it above my DIR 827 on the second floor. Now mi WiFi is working and the RE1000 uptime lasts for hours (12 or more hours) there are some reconnection but that's ok since the signal received by the RE1000 sometimes drops to 2 bars. So for all of you that have persistent reconecction issues I recommend trying my procedure. My only issue is that my second floor Smart TV for some reason only pickups the signal from the DIR-827, and not the extended one from the RE1000. But that´s a minor issue that I'll troubleshoot

Ok for $50, May 20th, 2013
It extends wireless networks, but out of order frame sequences hog network bandwidth with re-transmissions. I bought this to bridge my ps3 to my network, and I'm really not that impressed. I did notice at first the device would lose connection and would end sessions, but after some tweaking I got it running smoothly. First off, for any device that is using the ethernet port; make sure you set the wired connection settings on the client device to half-duplex 100Mb. If you have have an option to turn off power save support on your WiFi embedded router, this will help with the issue of WiFi clients losing connectivity. Unfortunately, this also means your WiFi devices will burn through the battery faster. Adjusting the beacon interval helped for me as well. The RE1000 is not designed to handle lots of clients generating network traffic. I don't even think it has any memory for true packet buffering. The RE1000 will start to drop lots of packets if you have several devices watching videos, gaming, ect. I did notice quite a bit of extra latency for wireless clients that connect through this AP when compared to the WiFi embedded router, but this is expected when you start adding half-duplex devices between you and your default gateway. I would like to know if there is a way access the CLI of the IOS so I could maybe make some actual adjustments to the performance on the device itself. I feel that having to make global adjustments to my network from my router just for one device isn't the best way for me to go about things. I tried to SSH in with Putty, but I couldn't get a response. I really want to be able to do something about all of the incorrect frame sequence instances that I'm seeing with wireshark.
